Staying Put at BLM Oxbow Campground on the Colorado River, Cibola, AZ

Oh Well

February 28th, 2012

We didn’t get that job we applied for in Camp Verde, AZ.  People who have stayed there and are familiar with the campground were the front runners.

I had a feeling we wouldn’t get it so have been applying to places in AZ, NV, and UT.  1 in Nevada, 2 in Arizona, and 2 or 3 in Utah, 2 in Moab.  Of course, we’ll keep you posted.

At least we now have lots of time to get packed up and stored, and ready to move.  This is the first time in years that we haven’t had a job to go to at least 6 months before we needed to be there.  It’s kind of frightening for me, but I know we always get by.  I’ve never done the WalMart hopping game, but there’s always a first.

Lee, our friend who lives year round here in Q, dropped by this afternoon with a months supply of lettuce and salad turnips, with the words to drop by for more if we needed.  I generously shared with Ron and Deb, Marv ‘n Deb and Linda ‘n Al.  Tomorrow we will be having a vegetarian dinner… big salad, cooked turnips, raw turnips, and cooked broccoli I bought 2 days ago.

I have a follow-up Dr. appt tomorrow and I, happily, will be able to share blood pressures of 117/78.  I can’t afford too many $20 co-pays, so I hope the Dr. is happy.

Time to say g’nite and get a shower.

Ya’ll stay healthy ‘n happy!

Past 10 Days

We went to the Dolan Ellis concert on the 21st.  He is the official balladeer for Arizona, and the first ever state balladeer.  He does a wonderful job of relating the history of Arizona thru the songs he writes and sings.  Here is the link to his website.  If you click on one of the categories of Recordings and Videos you can listen to a sample of his music.

We thoroughly enjoyed the night!

Now that it’s warming up more, we are getting more critters again.  I’m happy.

Thom, Marv ‘n Al spent yesterday transferring our honey wagon tanks to the flatbed trailer.  There’s still more work to get done on it, but Thom and Al are Nascar fans and the Daytona 500 was on today… of course after spending the whole morning waiting for the rain to quit there and the race to start, it got postponed until tomorrow.  Rattzlefratz ‘n Snagnasties!!

With the cost of gas going up to over $4/gal and diesel already above $4 we decided we just can’t afford to do the job in South Dakota.  I figured it out and at $4 for gas and $4.10 for diesel, it would cost us $3000 to do an unpaid job.  Strictly volunteer with no wages to help cover our travel costs.

We decided to look closer to home for a paid job.  We found a posting on Workampers Hotline for a job in Camp Verde north of Quartzsite and applied for it.  Since it’s only 200 or so miles from us, we drove over there on Thursday and interviewed. They were interviewing another couple today and will let us know what their decision is early this week.  This is a perfect place for us.  The location is beautiful, and the job is 3 days on, 3 days off.  Phoenix and Flagstaff are within easy driving distance (less than 2 hours ea).  We have a 50% chance of getting it.

If we get the job, we need to be there mid March.  It’s doable but we’ll be working our hind ends off.

Whatever we do, we still will have to drive to South Dakota to renew our driver’s licenses, but only in the Ranger and only a 4 day trip.  Fuel will be a lot less than moving there.

I finally made my appointment for a diabetic check-up.  My blood pressure was quite high, so they upped my meds for blood pressure and I’m back in control.  Once we have time to start riding our trikes regularly, it will be a whole lot better and hopefully I’ll be able to cut the meds back.

Winter is about over and the cost of gas has our friends leaving early before the cost climbs too high.  Al ‘n Linda will be leaving the 1st or 2nd of March and Ron and Deb the 15th of March.  Marv ‘n Deb will be here later than us if we get that job.  They are going to a Good Sam’s rally in Phoenix mid March, then heading home.

I think this more or less covers our days since I lost our blog.  I’ll keep ya’ll posted.

Ya’ll stay healthy ‘n happy!

Tah!

Hello World… We’re Back!

February 26th, 2012

It has taken me over a week to get back to being able to blog.  GoDaddy really messed me up with their update instructions.  I managed to figure out how to get back, and there may even be a way to restore my past posts.

I still have a lot of work to do putting the blog back together with all the options ‘n things, so bear with me please.

Right now I’m going to get some things done that working on the blog has kept me away from.  I’ll try to gather my thoughts and get an update post up tonight.

In the meantime…

Ya’ll stay happy ‘n healthy!
