The fridge not staying cool was not a function of the warm weather. It completely died last night along with all the lights in that slide. The trailer is still under warranty, but we would have to pay the service call charge if we could get someone out here. Unfortunately we can’t get anyone out here so we will be packing up the trailer and getting it ready to move today and tonight and we’ll take it down to RV Lifestyles tomorrow for James to look at. ‘Scuse the language, but Damn!
We have a friend in Utah who will be spending the rest of the winter with us here and he’s supposed to be arriving tomorrow, so I guess Thom will go with the trailer and I’ll sit around here (at the entrance shack) and wait for Kurt to show up.
We’ll be off the internet until we get the trailer back here, so no blog for a couple of days probably.

I’m not sure where to start….. I’m loving being where I am, more than I imagined. BUT…. I think we are having unseasonably hot weather and I’m certainly NOT loving that. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been able to bite the bullet and not let myself cajole Thom into running the A/C, but we may have to run our 7000 generator in order to run the A/C just so we can keep the fridge at a “save the food” cool temp. The fridge was up to 58F this evening. I guess that’s understandable if the outside temp is 90+ and the inside temp is 90F. We’re going to check the fuses, etc. in the morning when we have enough light, just to make sure the fridge is working okay, but I think it’s just because we’re not keeping the temp around the fridge (at least inside) at a decent temp. Running the generator to run the A/C basically means spending $3.07/hour (the cost of 1 gal of diesel).
It’s supposed to cool down in 2 days. I hope so and I hope it stays down for a bit.

Last week I took a pic of Tyson Wells to post here, and in January will take another from the same spot & post to the blog for comparison.

Thom’s right, yesterday was pretty much a boring day. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the registration shack and only registered 5 units. Thom was worn out from doing nothin’. I had my laptop and was able to look at & sort my recent photos.
We had a new bird in our yard on Thursday afternoon. I took a bunch of photos of him, but he pretty much stayed in the shadows. I was able to identify him though. He’s a Male Orchard Oriole. They normally stay in the eastern half of the states, but my bird book says he’s a “rare vagrant in Arizona, California, and the Maritimes”. Here’s one of the two best shots I was able to get.

Yesterday ( Friday ) was a work day at the entrance station, another really slow day. Took a three sided crate over to Ron and Terry so they could put thier cut firewood in it and keep it contained if they want to.
Today is a good day to do laundry so on it goes

well today is a go fer day, go fer the mail, go fer the firewood. No mail to speak of but the trip was not a total loss. Picked up a good load of crates and junk pallets to cut up for firewood.
It is gonna be a hot one again today. It’s only 1:30 and it is already 88 in the trailer. guess I will go out and start cutting up the wood

Yesterday we dumped tanks. I man the hose into the tank in the truck. Didn’t matter where I put my head, the wind turned to blow right over the mouth of the tank into my face. GAG! I can’t hold my breath that long!
It got to 93F in the trailer yesterday afternoon. I was hot ‘n grumpy. Thom said my sense of humor went in the toilet. He’s right.
I can’t be a grump for too long so I need to concentrate on the good of the day….. I did get some very good shots of the birds in our “yard” yesterday morning. I will probably post another album today.

It’s been a couple of days since either of us has written in our blog. Not a lot happening, but I’ll probably find plenty to ramble on about, after all…. I’m a woman.
Day before yesterday we got our insurance check for the generator so we had to go to Parker (closest branch) to deposit it in Wells Fargo. Then we went grocery shopping at Safeway, very nice, very clean, a few good sales, but mostly pricey compared to what I was used to in Utah. I guess I better get used to it, I don’t see produce prices dropping for the winter. Next time we have to go to Parker, we’ll try Bashes (the teller at the bank said it was old and dirty and the prices weren’t that much better to make it worth it). We wanted to go to Ehrenberg to get diesel while it was still below $3/Gal so we took Hwy 1 through the Colorado River Indian Reservation down to the Flying J in Ehrenberg. It was really a quite pretty drive with the fields all green or white with alfalfa or cotton. There were a few Great White Herons (Egrets) along the canal ditches. They are so lovely.
Yesterday Thom hopped on his bike and rode into town to see if one of our “suppliers” had any pallets for us to pick up for firewood. They did, so we took the pickup in to “gather” our firewood. We spent a good part of the day trying to get our DirecTV satellite lined up so we’d get a good signal. Our signal would go all the way up to 96, then drop to zero, then up to 45, then 95, and, of course, the picture would pixelate, drop off and turn black then back to picture puzzle pieces and so on. Very frustrating for us to say the least! We just signed up for RV DirecTV which lets us get local channels wherever we are, and it costs us $9/mo. more and we can’t even watch TV. D-TV says we probably have a bad cable somewhere. Today we’ll check the little one between the receiver and DVD/VCR player and pray it’s not the one that’s wired into the wall of the trailer.
Yesterday Ron & Terry (HitchItch) dropped by. Their power cord for their satellite modem (internet) died. They may not be blogging much in the next couple of days, until they can replace the power cord. Of course, they are welcome to use ours when we aren’t.
Temperatures have been kind to us the last couple of days…. Lo 60’s when we get up in the morning and highs in the lo 80’s.
This morning sometime between 3:30 and 4:00 we had an EMT and fire truck come into La Posa North to a 5th wheel to the northwest of us. Don’t know why.
See! Told ya I could find something to ramble about.

Other than the heat (92F inside the trailer), yesterday was a good day. We worked 1/2 day at the BLM registration kiosk and took in 9 registrations. Right now they are only opening the kiosk every other day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We don’t work again until this coming Friday. It’s really fun to meet the different kinds of people and chat a bit with them. We registered Ron and Terry of the Fulltime Hitchitch Blog fame. They stayed and chatted with us for bit. Nice, fun people.
So far I’ve done okay with the heat. I certainly don’t like 92F inside the trailer, but it doesn’t get that warm until late afternoon and we know that as soon as the sun goes down in an hour or so, the breeze will cool us right down, so we manage to survive without the A/C.
Today is hi thin clouds and quite cool. It’s only supposed to get to 77 today and right now (10:42 am) it’s only 67 in our trailer. I finally closed the windows to let it warm up a bit in here…… it was still down to 65 before I closed them. Heck, for the first time since we got to QZ on the 5th, I’m wearing sweatpants.
Since Thom is doing laundry, I think I ought to get domestic as well and mop floors or something. It’s cool enuff in here, I might even bake some cookies.

Sure was disconcerting (to say the least) to have the generator stolen. It blew our whole morning. I was going to go for an early morning walk to take advantage of the coolness and morning light (photography), but instead we were messing with the police and BLM Ranger all morning.
I’ve created and posted another photo album titled Photo Gallery 2 from Quartzsite. Just go to the photo links to the left and click on it.
If you visit our blog and/or look at the galleries, why don’t you click on the “no comments” at the bottom of a post and write us a note telling us you dropped by. We’d sure like to hear from you.

Well this has been an eventful last few days. Monday the nose pad on my glasses broke off and we couldn’t find any replacements in Quartzite so we had to drive over to Blythe. No parts any where so we went to an opticians shop and they fixed them there.
We decided to go get a sandwich while we were there after checking out a bulk items store and went to the local burger king. both Judy and I came down with the runs so we figure either the food got us or we got each other.
Tuesday we went into Quartzite to get a new set of cables for our Hughes internet system and look for sources of fire wood. Paul at the satelite place said we could come take whatever they had whenever they had some and suggested we went out to his brothers place and see what he had out there. We picked up 3 good sized shipping crates to start with.
One I am using as a wood crib, another as a work bench and will tear apart the other one and remove all the nails and screws , cut to length , separate by size and crib. James said to come back Thursday and he should have lots more.
When we got up this morning I went out to start up the generator ( the Honda 2000 ) and someone had cut the cable and stolen it last night. They also tried to get one a couple trailers up but it must have been to heavy and they left it behind. Had the local police out but they think it be long gone, they have never been able to recover one
