Staying Put at BLM Oxbow Campground on the Colorado River, Cibola, AZ

So Close…

September 17th, 2012

I’m like a kid at Christmas.  I want it now!  Only have to get thru tomorrow and we get to head on to Q the next day!  I really and truly hope to leave here at 7 a.m. or so, so we can be there by 8:30 or 8:45 and be setting up in the cool of the morning.  Expecting temps of 102F in Q on Wed.

Todays drive was pretty easy.  Las Vegas was relatively calm.  We managed to get in between the morning and lunch rushes so it was up to speed and NOT bumper to bumper.  My truck did okay thru all the long climbs, but was still frustrating at not keeping up.  Thom wants to do a thing or two to beef it up, and I’m all for it if I think we can afford it.

Thom will be going to see Brian tomorrow about the gas pump, and I will stay home and do laundry and get my new printer set up.  I’m going to have to dig up a LOT of quarters!  I’m wearing my last pair of decent shorts and I have no more light colored tee shirts in the closet.  Everyone knows ya wanna wear light colors in the heat if ya wanna stay cooler.  I do love purple though!

The campground we’re in is quite nice… pool, hot tub, pull thru sites, etc.  Passport America campground so 50% off, we have a pull thru site, 50 amp ($3 extra/nite) and are paying $52 for 2 nights… reminds me of the campground we worked at this summer… hehe.  Unfortunately, we are close enuff together that we can’t put our awnings out to shade the afternoon sun and heat from our windows.  Thank heavens for 50 amp and a/c!

Gonna have to go into adjust mode again when we get to Q.  We’ve done it before, we’ll do it again… and since we’re in Q, we’ll be lovin’ it!

Ya’ll stay healthy ‘n happy!

Back Again

June 27th, 2012

Today was day 3 of our days off.  Monday we went shopping, found a few things in town we needed, and got a few things done that needed doing.  Tuesday we did a bit more of getting things done that needed doing.  A few days ago we brought the cargo trailer back to the site, figured out how to fit it and our Ram 1500 in the site.  Today Thom (with a bit of help from me) moved the freezer from beneath the hitch (covered area) to inside the cargo trailer.  We plan on keeping it in the trailer and the trailer at our site until we leave here.  If our bosses complain, we’ll move it back.  I doubt they’ll complain though, they let the campers do a lot of weird stuff!

We’ve decided to try a new restaurant once a week and we’re finding we have weird taste or people who live here have weird tastes.  I was told Eddie McStiff’s had great pizza, but we went there tonight and our pizza was not only undercooked, but also, judging by the temp of it, slow coming from the kitchen.  Pizza needs to be HOT… nearly too hot to take a bite.  Ours was a bit more than lukewarm.  If they’d been busy with the waitresses and waiters hopping, I could, maybe, understand our pizza being cool.

I have the last of the 3 hummingbird orders getting closer to being done… I’ll be glad to get them done.  I enjoy doing them and watching them come together… realizing I chose the right color combinations, etc.  When I’m done posting this, I’m going to go online to order beads that are more like the colors I want for a new snake… creams and browns and ummmm… whatever looks right.

Anyone interested in a super easy, totally acceptable custard pie, let me know… no water bath, no worries.  I got the recipe from a friend on facebook, have made it twice and it works great!  My boss gave me a dozen eggs from their free range chickens (I expected them to be eggy, but they were yummy), so I made this pie and shared it with them.  They loved it.

I took a photo tonight of our view during sundown.  It’s beautiful and I wanted to share it with ya’ll.

I’m still working with the new Window’s Write program, so if this pic doesn’t come thru big enuff for you to see, I’ll go back and change it.

By the way, we got a touch of rain in a thunderstorm last night, felt wonderful, but not nearly enuff rain.  Just enough to knock down the dust, not enough to create puddles.  We need a lot more.

Ya’ll stay healthy ‘n happy!
